Two Racetracks in Two Days!

We are on the road! What a great feeling to finally pull out of our driveway after months of planning, preparing and packing!

Scooby quickly settled into his favorite spot and off we went.

Our first stop was just outside Nashville at a Core of Engeneers campground called Defeated Creek Campground! Other than the name, it was a great place! We loved our campsite right on the water. We stayed there 3 nights and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets (when it would finally cool down) and also took one of the nicest, most beautiful, foggy paddles we have ever done along the uninhabited shores of the Cumberland River.

After departing the Nashville area, we headed north and took a quick stop in Louisville for a visit to Churchill Downs. We had lunch at their cafe, took a guided walking tour of the grounds and then visited the museum. It was so fun to actually see in person what you have seen so many times on TV. A really fun and interesting way to spend the afternoon.

Back in the RV we continued on to our final destination for the day, Indianapolis. We parked the RV, unhooked the jeep and took off just in time to catch a AAA baseball game at Victory Stadium. The Indianapolis Indians were playing the Louisville Cardinals and it was $1 food night!! Peanuts, hotdogs, etc were all only $1! Too bad the beer was not that cheap! The stadium was really nice and located in their pretty downtown area.

The next day Bob woke early as he was so excited for our visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the famous Indy 500 car race! We toured the grounds and their museum (where Bob had to read EVERY plaque). It is the worlds largest stadium and has seats for 250,000 people! We did leave here with attending the 500 now on Bob's bucket list!

After the tours we ran a few errands and then finished the day at Rad Brewery, located in downtown Indianapolis. A cute place that was dog friendly with nice outdoor seating. Bob was pretty excited when he was able to fill his growlers for $7!

The following day we were on the road again, the highlight of the day (other than miles and miles of corn fields) was crossing over the Mississippi River from Illinois into Iowa. We are now on our way to camp at a lake outside of Iowa City. So far all has run according to plan. We even survived the few times when I took over the driving to give Bob a break. The weather has been VERY hot all the way and we are looking forward to the temps cooling off over the weekend. (Remind me of this when we hit cooler temps in the mountains next month!).

We are following world events and are praying for our nation and our military, especially those families that lost loved ones in the most recent attack in Kabul. We know that while we enjoy our freedom to travel around the country, that many are putting their lives at risk to protect that freedom. We are forever grateful that we have a chance to see this great nation of ours. If you have not seen this part of the country, I highly recommend it. This is truly the "heartland" and makes you proud to be an American.
