Plans Are Things That Can Change!

After Mary's wedding was over, our plan was to head west over to the Oregon coast and then work our way south towards San Diego with stops along the way and then spend some time with my family before headed east towards home.

I mentioned in an earlier blog that my mom was in the hospital. About 10 days before Mary's wedding, my 91 year old mom had a heart attack. She was hospitalized and ended up having several procedures including putting a stint in and then a pace maker. It was a bit of a stressful time as I wanted to be with her and my dad during this time, but of course was busy with the wedding and needed AND wanted to be in Idaho!

So our travel plans changed. Bob dropped me at the airport 2 days after the wedding and I flew to San Diego. He then proceeded to drive the RV (along with Scooby) on a more direct route and met us there 5 days later. By the time I arrived my mom had been transferred back to the property they live at but on a rehab floor and not their apartment. This was great for a few reasons. One my dad didn't have to try and get over to the hospital every day. And two, more visitors were allowed to see her. With Covid, the hospital was very strict and was only allowing one visitor a day for two hours total. At The Vi, where they live, as long as you were vaccinated you could visit her! So I was able to spend a lot of time there with her and my dad.

We enjoyed taking my mom across the street from The Vi for picnic lunches. I was calling it “vitamin D therapy“.

Bob and Scooby arrived and it was great to be reunited!

I think the "Boys" had a good trip down by themselves but were happy to arrive in sunny San Diego.

Scooby was even allowed to visit my mom and quickly became a favorite of the staff and fellow residents!

I was there a total of 2 weeks. My sister, Laura, arrived the second week and it was great to have our family all together.

My mom was steadily improving and was even well enough that we had a small family gathering to celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary!

Bob and I were able to fit in some paddling at Mission Bay. We also enjoyed a few visits with our good friends Jill and Jimmy Fiero. (guess I didn't take any photos)

It was hard to leave, but made easier as I have already booked a plane ticket back to visit them again in December.

It was time for us to start the trek back east with plans to be back in North Caroline by Thanksgiving.
