With a few delays, we finally departed Cashiers late Tuesday afternoon and arrived at our first stop in Nashville well after dark. It was a surreal feeling to pull out of our driveway knowing it would be at least 2 months before we returned. It was a bit stressful getting ready to go but now we are San Diego bound with many planned and unplanned stops in between! This is the general route we are going to take:

Our goal is to arrive in San Diego on November 16 and spend 2 weeks there with my family over Thanksgiving. Our slow pace will be getting to San Diego but then pick it up on the way back as we want to spend Christmas in Cashiers with both our girls and their fiancés planning to join us!
We just finished 3 days in the Nashville area, camping at an awesome COE campground on J Percy Priest Lake.

We enjoyed a great hike along The Stones River Greenway.

They we letting water out of the dam and it was pretty impressive!

And there was even a HUGH dog park....which I didn't get a photo of, but did take one of this cool drinking fountain that even had a spot for dogs!

Our daughter recommended a visit to Centennial Park and we enjoyed reading all about the history of the park as we walked around the path and stopped at all the info boards.

And there is even a full scale replica of the Parthenon!

Back at our campground and sunsets were breathtaking.

Our next stop is Memphis. We were planning to stay for 3 days but are cutting that trip short due to Hurricane Delta headed this way with anticipated 10-20 miles an hour winds and heavy rain fall.....doesn't sound like much fun to camp in.....so we will head further west after just one night in Memphis.
You should stop at Santa Fe NM on your way and have chili and bunuelos at the Plaza Cafe! And Canal street has ~100 art galleries.
