Grand Canyon is MORE than Grand!

We arrived late in the afternoon to the little town just outside the south rim of The Grand Canyon. We wanted to stay at one of the campgrounds inside the park, but two of them were already closed and the one that was open was full. We instead stayed at a somewhat average campground called Grand Canyon Camper Village. I will say that what it lacked in atmosphere it made up for in location. We were able to walk to the little shops and restaurants in town and the small "grocery store" next door.

The next morning we purchased an America the Beautiful National Park pass. This allows you to enter any national park/monument for one year. We then took a drive along the rim and pulled off at many of the view areas. Our first sight of the canyon literally took my breath away! We just stood there in wonder and awe for a long time. All the stops were beautiful and it was hard to believe how different the canyon looked at the various angles.

It was just stunning. I think I spent the most of the day saying, “this is amazing“, “this is beautiful“, “WOW! God is good!“!!

The next day we went back into the park but this time to bike along another section of the rim that is only open to pedestrians on a walking trail and bikes on the road. The only traffic on this road was the occasional shuttle bus. My kind of riding!

The ride is 7 miles one way, with some slight uphill and downhill sections. Once we reached the end of the road we had a picnic lunch looking over the canyon.

We had some interesting "lunch guests" nearby our picnic table:

What a pleasant surprise to see this posted inside our national park!

For the way back, we loaded the bikes onto the shuttle and relaxed on the drive back to the parking area. A great way to see the park!
Our last day in the area we took the jeep and went exploring on some back roads in the area, did some laundry at the campground, caught up on some emails and then went out to dinner at a great steak house called Yippee Ei O! We loved our time here in this beautiful area and hope to return again soon! Next stop is Lake Powell on the boarder of Arizona and Utah.
It looks and sounds like you had an awesome few days. The Grand Canyon is amazing! Lake Powell is beautiful too. You should rent a boat. Have fun!
