Family, Fireworks, Ferries, and Friends!

We arrived in Washington, DC and were very excited to see how nice Cherry Hill Park was! Our site was centrally located in this large campground, close their 2 swimming pools and café. Elizabeth and Tyler and their new dog, Chipper arrived shortly after we did and checked into their “glamping pod”.

We all stayed 2 nights at the campground and then we left the RV parked there but drove into DC and stayed the next 2 nights at their apartment so we could be close to the capitol for the 4th of July.

We had so much fun hanging out with Elizabeth and Ty. We did visit a few breweries but really enjoyed just hanging out at the campground. One morning we made a big breakfast and watched a Formula 1 car race on TV.

The highlight of our time in DC was the 4th. They had invited some of their friends over for a cookout.

After dinner we went to the capital Since Elizabeth and Tyler both work for congressman, we were all able to sit on the capital steps for a great view of the evening activates. Bob and I both had tears in our eyes when the orchestra played the national anthem. The concert was filled with patriotic moments and the fireworks show was like none I had ever seen before. The photos below do not do it justice!

It was sad to leave Elizabeth and Tyler but we were excited to be heading further north towards Canada! Our next stop was New York City! We actually stayed an a RV park in New Jersey called Liberty Harbor. We were just across the Hudson River from Manhattan. The RV park is literally a parking lot with hookups! But location, location, location! We could board the ferry right there at the harbor and just a few minutes later be in the city.

We had a FULL two days visiting Manhattan and I think both days I had over 20,000 steps on my watch. We did a lot of sightseeing and eating! Our favorite meal was at a Korean BBQ restaurant. They cooked the meat right at our table. After our meal we went to the top of the Empire State Building and watched a beautiful sunset over the city.

The next morning, we had a bit of difficulty getting on the right interstate and somehow ended up in the middle of Harlem! To say this was stressful in an understatement! The traffic was terrible and we were in the heart of Harlem and into part of the Bronx before we got back on track. Bob was AMAZING at driving our rig in such a difficult situation! Somehow we finally got back onto I-95 and started heading north! I only wish I had a photo of this but it was a bit too tense to take out the camera!

While in NY, we received a text from our good friends, Lisa and Doug Hill from Savanah, GA. They had made some last-minute plans to be in Boothbay Harbor, Maine for the weekend. We immediately started looking at the maps and realized it was not that far out of our way to meet up with them. They were staying at a friend’s property and said there was plenty of room for our RV! We spent 2 days in that beautiful area. Doug has been going there for years and was an incredible tour guide. We even took a fun sailing trip around the bay area.

Our next and last stop in the USA was Bar Harbor, Maine. And would you believe that more friends of ours from SC were in Bar Harbor at the same time we were to be there….small World We met up with Georgia and Jay for dinner one night. I guess we need to come to Maine to catch up with our friends!

Our days were spent exploring Acadia National Park. With it’s beautiful drives, hikes and views it is truly a magical place.

We then packed up and started our drive north again…..next stop ….Canada!
